Gladbrook Veterans Day Potluck

The Auxiliary were proud to host the annual Gladbrook Veterans Day potluck on Monday evening, November 11 at 6:30pm. They welcomed special guests, Jim Demarest of Ames, Dept Commander, Jim Zaharias, Hampton, Third Dist Cmdr, Wilford Yuska, Traer, Tama Co Cmdr, as well as the September Honor Flight attendees from our Post, Lyle Wrage, Leonard Raum, George Goos, Dick Denbow and Carroll Wegner. Charles Saint was unable to attend. Jodi Betts, Poppy Chairman presented each of them as well as the other veterans attending, with a poppy boutonniere. Hostesses for the evening were Karen Pieper, Becky Fevold and Kendra Vavroch for her mother, Kathy. President Jeanne welcomed everyone with introductions. She then introduced Rev Barb Muhs as she gave a bit of history on the patriotic songs we sang. Sue Koster ably led us at the piano as we sang each military song as our veterans stood to be recognized for their service. Commander Terry introduced his special Legion guests as they all gave greetings to the group as well as brief comments from the Honor Flight members on their great experience. Several shared scrapbooks and photos of their day! Announcements of coming activities were given with the Auxiliary serving the 40&8 supper on November 20 by Group #2, Tama Co Joint meeting will be held at Tama on Tuesday, Nov 26th with Amy of the Cedar Rapids Outreach project as speaker, and the IVH Gift Wrap will be held on December 3rd and 4th. If interested in going, call Jolene for a ride and she will call in lunch reservations. The Auxiliary will be making popcorn balls for the CC Santa sacks at 9am on Monday, Nov 25, all volunteers welcome. Our next meeting will be the 6:30pm Christmas Candlelight program with the Juniors and lunch served by the Auxiliary, on Wednesday December 11.
