Before Judge Marsha A. Bergan in Tama County District Court in Toledo:

Matthew Ellias Sanache, 34, rural Tama was sentenced to five years in prison for 3rd offense drunken driving. He was fined and assessed court costs totaling $4,219 and directed to pay a $10 DARE surcharge. He had pled guilty earlier on July 25. The charge was filed on Jan. 31 on Business Highway 30 by Toledo Police Officer Joe McMillen. Brandon Kristopher Bills, 22, Marshalltown, was sentenced to 50 days in jail on each of two counts of assault causing bodily injury. He was also assessed a fine and surcharge totaling $325 on each charge. On two counts of providing alcohol to persons under age he was fined and assessed surcharges totaling $1,350. Bills was given credit for 50 days already served in jail. He pled guilty to the charges on Aug. 16. He was charged on Oct. 12, 2012, at 4 a.m. at Union Grove Lake, Gladbrook, after allegedly injuring the wrist of one female victim and applying a full-nelson-type hold on a second female victim resulting in her being unable to breathe and becoming unconscious for a considerable period of time. The charges were field by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Bruce Rhoads. Gordon Robert Green, 28, Tama, pled guilty to 1st offense drunken driving. He was granted a deferred judgement and placed on probation for one year to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. He was assessed a $1,250 civil penalty and directed to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and to follow any treatment recommendations. Green was charged on Aug. 19 at South Broadway and 2nd Avenue by Toledo Police Officer Dan Quigley. Gilbert Emery Brown, 53, rural Tama, pled guilty to driving while barred. He was sentenced to 14 days in jail and fined and assessed a surcharge totaling $$844. Brown was charged on Aug. 21 on U.S. Highway Expressway at 305th Street by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Joe Quandt. Travis Wayne Howerton, 29, Kellogg, entered a written guilty plea to assault causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 50 days in jail with credit for 50 days served and fined and assessed court costs totaling $425. Howerton was charged on May 14 for punching a victim in the head causing a large cut according to the court record. The charge was field by Tama Police Officer Barnette Curry. Linh Mai, 33, Des Moines, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of 3rd degree theft. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail with credit for 120 days already served. He was assessed a fine and court costs totaling $844 which was suspended. Mai was directed to pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and to pay restitution. He was charged on Nov. 11, 2011, for writing a $700 personal check to the Meskwaki Casino, rural Tama, which was returned for insufficient funds. The charge was field by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police. Jason Elijah Mann Hankrider, 33, Waterloo, entered a written guilty plea to 3rd degree theft. He was sentenced to five days in jail and assessed a fine and surcharge totaling $844. The fine and surcharge were suspended. He was directed to pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. Hankrider was accused of borrowing a small utility trailer and reporting he had returned it when instead he had sold it to another person. The trailer was valued at $750. The charge was filed by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Joe Quandt.

Stephanie Lea Roeder, 26, Toledo, failed to appear for trial and was adjudged guilty of driving while license suspended, having no vehicle insurance and a headlamp violation. She was fined and assessed court costs totaling $920. The charges were filed by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police. Joyce A. Phelps, 49, Cedar Rapids, failed to appear for trial and was adjudged guilty and assessed a fine and court costs totaling $175 on a charge of speeding between 11mph and 15 over the limit. The Iowa state Patrol filed the charge.
