Homecoming Dance by Trey Moore GMG Students are anticipating the homecoming dance on the 21st of September. The dance will be held at the store on Main Street in Garwin. The dance will last from 8:00-11:00PM, and the price to get in is $5.00 for a single and $8.00 for a couple. The DJ making the music happen is “LISTEN UP! PRODUCTIONS” from Ankeny. Sadly, its for high schoolers only, and if you bring an out-of-district date please sign him/her up with Mrs. Boerm in the central office between September 16th and 20th. These dates must be a teen or freshman in college. Hope to see everyone at the dance!

GMG Varsity Girls First Win by Devon Schuett On Thursday, September 5, the GMG high school varsity volleyball teams easily rousted Valley Lutheran of Cedar Falls. Game results were 25-10, and 25-11. It was an all around team victory. Each person on the GMG varsity team, did thier job. There was no outstanding person. Specific notable stats include aces: Abbie Duden, 1; Mikaella Koster, 1; Caitlin Appelgate, 1; Olivia Barritt, 1; Summer Langenbau, 1; and Olivia Welton, 1. Finally some girls overcame their opponents with resounding kills. They include Caitlin Appelgate,1; Peyton Mannan, 1; and Olivia Barritt, 3. Great victory, team!

JV Football by Scott Rockne On Monday, September16, the GMG JV boys faced Don Bosco. The game was in Gilbertville, IA. It was held from 6pm-8pm. The weather was 56 degrees so, it was great football weather. The winds will be out of the east 5-15 miles an hour. Go and support our JV boys on other games, and have a good time but remember dress warm.

Coronation by Anna Scheidel By the time this article is out the king and queen will have been announced. The winners will be announced next week. Coronation this year will be Wednesday, the 18th in the old gym at the GMG high school at 7pm. It will be followed by court photos on stage, then photos at the Social Center. After coronation, there will be a Powder Puff game at the football field. During the game, Lincoln Savings Bank will be holding a tailgate party at the concession stand. There will be hotdogs, popcorn, and pop. All the food will be free. After the game there will be the senior bonfire. Homecoming royalty will be announced a the GMG homecoming game on Friday the 20th, at half time. The game starts at 7pm. We hope everyone will come out to support the Wolverines!

Parent Teacher Conferences By: Aspen Brown Parent Teacher Conferences will be on September 25, 2013 at GMG High School’s old gym. It starts at 4:00 p.m and it runs til 8:00 p.m. All teachers will be present. Parents will be asked to attend to listen to the comments the teachers have about their children. If students attend they will be given five extra credit to give to a teacher of their choice. Hope to see all parents there!

MAP Testing Jacy Johnson On September 9th through September 13th the GMG High School students took the MAP tests. We hope everyone tried their hardest. The results of the MAP tests should be in soon. If you were absent on the days of the MAP tests see Mrs. Strohbehn for make up days or to figure out a way to make it up.

GMG’s Homecoming Game!! By: Shannon Brown All of the football players for GMG are excited for this years homecoming game!! We are playing the Grundy Center Spartans. We will be playing the game here in Garwin! The football game will start at 7 p.m. There will be a pep-rally after school before the game. It will be held at the high school. As of now our football team has won 3 games and lost 1. We are doing really well this year! I am really excited to watch the football team play this Friday! We need everyone to come to the football game and cheer for GMG!

Parade etiquette Chris O’Neal The GMG homecoming parade will be held September 20th, at 2:45PM. The parade will make its way through Main Street of Garwin. Everyone please keep a good distance away from the floats and vehicles. If a float is throwing out candy, there will be someone walking beside the float throwing it out of a bucket. Do not run out in the street to get the candy on the ground.

GMG Cross Country Team By Camden Barnes The GMG Cross Country Team is going to be running at BCLUW this Saturday morning. It will be a very challenging run. We have to run at the BCLUW Golf Course. It’s a pretty nice Golf Course with a lot of hills. We just have to use those hills, and I think everybody will do fine.

GMG Volleyball Tournament by Devon Schuett On Saturday, September 14, GMG hosted a Volleyball Tournament at 9 a.m. BGM, HLV, Valley Lutheran, Waterloo Christian, and GMG were all the teams that competed. The tournament was a round robin set up. BGM won the tournament with the record of 4-0. Valley Lutheran was second with the record of 3-1. Then GMG, HLV, and Waterloo Christian, all tied with the record of 1-3. It was an eventful day, with a lot of hustle!

Homecoming pictures By: Ryan Larson The homecoming pictures here at GMG are scheduled to be done Saturday on the 21st just before the dance. Pictures will be taken at the social center of GMG on the East side. Freshman and sophomore pictures will be between 6 and 7. Junior and Senior pictures will be from 7 to 8. The pictures will be taken by Wayne’s photography located in Gladbrook. The theme, as you know, is Midnight Dream.

Mr. Football By: Kendra Savage Mr. Football is a fundraiser by the GMG Dance Team. Each person on dance team is assigned a senior boy on the football team. The girls have created posters that are hung up as advertisement through the school. The students vote by donating change to the player’s supporting dance team member. One penny equals out to one vote. The winner will be announced at the football game on Friday, September 20th. Come find out who won! The winning player will receive a gatorade, candy bar, and a t-shirt!

GMG Cross Country at MHS by Hunter Smith The GMG Boys Cross Country Team went to the 40th Bobcat Invitational Varsity Boys at Marshalltown Community College on September.12, 2013. Jeff Hughes ran a time of 20:25, Josh Raymond ran a time of 20:46, Josh Gruen ran a time of 21:45, Logan Burt ran a time of 22:25, and Camden Barnes ran a time of 27:33. The boys are running well! Keep moving, men!

GMG vs North Tama Trey Moore The GMG football team played North Tama on September 13th. The game was played at North Tama. GMG was victorious! Brock Fisher, Austin Vaughn, and Luke Petty scored touchdowns during the game. The final score 27-13.
