The student teaching agreement with Buena Vista College was approved. The elementary, middle school and high school handbooks were approved as presented with no major changes. A quote was received for materials for a new concession stand at the soccer field in Reinbeck. The board had several questions and asked Supt. Kuehl to have several items clarified and to also get labor quotes before accepting. The board has been discussing building a new press box on the visitor side of the football field but after reviewing a quote they felt the press box should stay where it is but to make some improvements. More information with financial numbers will be requested. The first reading of board policy 505.5 on graduation requirements was recognized. Starting with the class of 2016, all students will be required to earn 58 credits of high school work. During the transition the class of 2014 will require 55 credits; class of 2015 56.5 credits and 2016 and beyond will need 58 credits. Physical education is 1 credit per trimester beginning with the 2012-13 school years. Students will be required to take PE at least 9 of their 12 high school trimesters. Heidi Evenson, Cathy Westwater and Brookek Mahr will be leaving the Advisory Committee and board members were asked to provide names of possible candidates to serve a 3-year term. The board approved hiring a full time associate and a part time (3 hrs/day) library associate at the Reinbeck Elementary. Supt. Kuehl shared with the board some possible sharing opportunities with new incentives of $75,000 per position. Andrea Rowe thanked the board for allowing the 7th & 8th grade middle school students to go on a trip to Washington DC which was enjoyed by those attending.
