Lester Ottis Kneeland, 99

Lester Ottis Kneeland, 99, died March 16, 2013 at the Lutheran Home in Vinton, IA. Lester was born May 25, 1913 to Jacob Earl and Virdie (Marken) Kneeland in Toledo, IA. Following graduation from Marshalltown High School, Lester worked in the meat packing plant and drove an egg route (picking up eggs from farmers). Lester was a hired hand on the Wilkinson farm near Reinbeck. After he and Caroll Medberry were married May 25, 1938, they worked on the Harold Koester and Elmer Gethmann farms. From 1942 - 1960 they farmed west of Gladbrook and 1961 - 1977 north of Reinbeck, before retiring in Gladbrook. They moved to the Lutheran Home Assisted Living in Vinton in 2002. Lester was a member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church over 50 yrs. He served as Treasurer and he and Caroll planted and cared for flowers around the exterior of the church. Lester served on the Badger Hill Cemetery board and was a member of the Gladbrook Lions Club. Lester is survived by two sisters, Irma Vance and Mary Lensch, four children, Marcia (Tom) Beineke, WI; Donna (Eugene) Enderson, IA; Loren (Cathy) Kneeland, TN; and Lois (David) Dutcher, KS; twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. His parents; wife, Caroll; three brothers, Ira, Ivan, & Delbert; one sister Avis Hutchens; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lensch, Randall Vance, & Bruce Hutchens; & three sisters-in-law, Lucille, Alma & Doris Kneeland preceded him in death. Memorials may go to the Gladbrook United Methodist Church, 715 Lincoln St., Gladbrook, IA 50635; the Lutheran Home Assisted Living, 1413 2nd Ave., Vinton, IA 52349; Badger Hill Cemetery. Memorial Service will be held May 26, 2013,1:30 p.m., at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church.
