The Gladbrook Women’s Club met on December 13, 2012 at The Festival of Trees for their Christmas Brunch with 28 members present. The tables were beautifully decorated with Nutcracker figurines, compliments of Joyce Bern. The lunch was catered by hometown Foods and consisted of a delicious lasagna, bread sticks, and veggies with dip. Each member was asked to bring a dozen cookies or candy which were put into Christmas bags and shared as a dessert. President Karen Handorf opened a short business meeting by reading a Christmas poem. President Handorf shared that Holiday Happenings was a huge success and more tickets were sold than last year. Treasurer Shirley Miell reported that a nice profit had been made. The Kids Shopping Day was also a huge success with more children taking part than last year. The women were asked to try and collect things throughout the year, especially geared toward the men. Martha Gamble is collecting Christmas cards with any nativity scene on them. They may be dropped off at her house. Other cards will again be collected to be used as name tags. A sign-up sheet was passed around for volunteers to help with the blood drive on January 29, 2013 to be held at the Methodist Church. President Handorf closed the meeting with another Christmas poem. She then turned the meeting over to Pat Clausen who gave a most interesting and informative talk on the history of the Nutcracker Suite. Following the presentation Pat played a beautiful waltz that gave all present time to reflect on the season and enjoy the beautiful setting of the Festival of Trees. She then closed by reading a fun poem titled “Everything I Needed to Know About Frosty the Snowman.”
