GR Singers to Dorian Festival By: Shelby Yates

Another great opportunity has been offered to Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School vocalists. This upcoming January is the 63rd annual Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College in Decorah. Thousands of high schoolers throughout the entire state cross their fingers for the opportunity to attend Dorian, and six students from G-R have been accepted! These students include: Cortney Crozier, Breanna Schlichtmann, Erin Wentzien, Aaron Shouse, Sadie Walton, and Shelby Yates. Before Dorian Vocal Festival was created, Luther College began with the Dorian Band Festival event in 1949, when just over 20 schools were invited to bring a few selected band students to the Luther campus. The vocal festival was added the following year, and has grown ever since! Over 90,000 students have shared in the Dorian experience throughout the years. Aside from the five Dorian Festivals, Luther College also offers two music camps each year. From January 12-14, 2013, over 1200 chosen junior and senior high school students will attend a three-day honor choir camp. A grand concert will be held at the end of the Festival on the 14th. During this concert, the Luther College Nordic Choir also performs, along with festival soloists selected from over 500 auditions. The GR singers are beyond excited for this amazing opportunity and look forward to traveling to Decorah for the Dorian Vocal Festival!
