Local athlete receives Central men’s cross country award

PELLA, IOWA—Brandon Clough, sr., GMG HS, Awards/honors: Four varsity letters, team co-captain (2012). Season best 8,000-meter time: 26:52; Oct. 27, 2012; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Iowa Conference meet. Career best 8,000-meter time: 26:52; Oct. 27, 2012; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Iowa Conference meet. Has been honored for his contributions to the Central College men’s cross country team. For the first time in program history, Central captured the Iowa Conference title. The Dutch claimed the top three spots and fourth-year coach Joe Dunham was tabbed the league’s coach of the year. Central placed second at the Central Region meet and secured a bid to the NCAA Division III championships. The Dutch finished tied for 12th, the best national finish in the program’s history. Eli Horton (sophomore, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS), the league’s MVP, garnered all-America honors after placing 29th. Horton received the team’s Most Valuable Performer Award for the second straight year. Dunham awarded 19 varsity letters at the team’s recent awards banquet. The Dutch will return 13 letterwinners for the 2013 season.
