20 yrs. ago Sept. 11, 1992 Members of the Tama Co. Pork producers spent this past week in Boston, Mass. promoting pork. They grilled and gave away 500 pork loin sandwiches at Roche-Brothers grocery stores in the Boston area, serving 500 sandwiches at three stores each day, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, serving a minimum of 4,500 sandwiches. School board elections were held last Tuesday, September 8 with a very small voter turn out in the Gladbrook School District. There were two seats open and two candidates running. Incumbent Jeff Schulz received 77 votes in Gladbrook and 21 in Lincoln for a total of 98 votes. Jeff OKones received 81 votes in Gladbrook and 21 in Lincoln for a total of 102 votes. both will serve three years. 30 yrs. ago Sept. 24, 1982 Guides for fans-Due to football fans reportedly leaving Friday night football games in order to consume alcoholic beverages in the parking lot, the following guidelines have been established by the Gladbrook School administration and athletic director-”Football fans will be permitted to leave (if planning to be readmitted) only for reasons considered to be legitimate or emergency. The drinking of alcoholic beverages does not fall within either category. GMG Homecoming Queen and King candidates are Angel Smith, Susan Parks, Linda Beck, Wade Welton, Doug Minnich, and Brad Mitchell. Twenty Garwin Community School students and their driver, Kermit K. Nelson, 47, rural Garwin, escaped serious injury Friday afternoon Sept. 17, when their school bus upset on a gravel road 3 1/2 miles southwest of Garwin near the Tama-Marshall County line. 40 yrs. ago Sept. 29, 1972 Miss Susan Ann Lynk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lynk of Gladbrook, became the bride of Raphael A. Frimml of Gilman, Saturday afternoon September 16. Saturday, September 16, in Rochester, Minnesota, Miss Marilyn Doty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Doty of Gladbrook and Thomas O’Hearn, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. O’Hearn, Rochester, were united in marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hasselmann are the parents of a son, Jared Brad, born Tuesday, September 6. Jared weighed seven pounds and eight ounces. He has a brother Darren, 2, and an older brother, Robb Reinhard. Grandparents are the Perry Millers and Elmo Hasselmann. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Tessau of Omaha, Neb. became the parents of Melissa Anne on Wednesday, September 20. She weighed in at 9 lb.. 6 oz. and is their first child. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tessau of Gladbrook and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Legouri of Des Moines are grandparents. 50 yrs. ago Sept. 28, 1962 Gladbrook Panthers football team ran through, over, and around Maxwell as they scored 27 points while holding their opponents scoreless as week ago Friday evening at Maxwell. The Gladbrook Panthers led by the brilliant running of Ralph Thomsen and a rugged, determined defense, romped to a 45-6 football win over Union-Whitten here last Friday night in the opening of the Iowa River Valley Conference. Alf Johanson, a Swedish farm boy, has enjoyed a week of beautiful fall weather at the Ward Handorf farm in Vienna Township. Alf, is an International Farm Youth Exchangee who has been in the United States seven weeks and will remain here two more weeks before visiting other farm families in Iowa and other states. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keiser are the parents of a girl born Thursday, September 20. She has been named Nancy Jo. 60 yrs. ago Sept. 19 & 26, 1952 Joyce Darlene Kroeger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kroeger of Gladbrook and Danny Gene Starits, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Starits of Garwin, exchanged wedding vows Sunday evening, September 14. The Gladbrook Panthers ran wild over Colo last Friday night in the seasons opener by defeating the visitors 36-0. Mrs. Kurt Kaput and Mrs. Wm. Mohr, chairmen of the Gladbrook Community Woman’s Club “Mitten Tree”, this week announced that the tree will be on display at the Iowa Electric Light & power Co. office about Nov. 1. A box is now at the light company office for those having used or new mittens they wish to donate and they are asked to leave them as soon as possible. The mittens will be packed for overseas shipment about Dec. 15. 70 yrs. ago Sept. 25, 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Anton Niedermann, of the Amity community, announced the marriage of their youngest daughter, Violet, to Sgt. Wayne W. Bush, which took place Thursday, September 10, in the Monterey Presbyterian Church at Monterey, California. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rosenberger are the parents of a daughter born Saturday morning. 80 yrs. ago Sept. 23,1932 Mr. A. K. Wiese and Mrs. Edna Luckow motored to Galena, Illinois, Tuesday, Sept. 20 and were quietly married. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. G. P. Allard. Mr. Wiese is a home boy.
