The Garwin American Legion Auxiliary met Monday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Legion Hall. President Jane Jordebrek opened the meeting in regular form. Arlyn Langenbau was introduced to present information on the proposed Veteran’s Memorial in the Garwin Cemetery. At the present time there are 121 veterans buried there. He was seeking an organization to help raise the needed finances for the project. Several fund raising ideas were suggested. More information will be gathered by the next meeting. The secretary’s report was approved and the treasurer’s statement given and filed for audit as well as final profits from RAGBRAI and summer popcorn stand. Reports were given on the Tama Co. picnic at the IVH from those attending. A computer and desk have been purchased from money donated to the library with the balance still to be used. The librarian reported over 90 persons have used the computer. Chaplain Elaine Upah read an article about what our veterans have given us. Membership dues of $20.00 for 2013 are payable to Floriss Stamp, membership chairman, 22 members have paid so far. Tuesday, August 21 is the opening of school. President Jane will be in charge of the flag raising at 8:30 a.m. At 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, is the County School of Instruction for Presidents and Secretaries at Gladbrook. Because of Labor Day, the next meeting will be the second Monday of the month on September 10. Melissa Gaskill volunteered to serve lunch. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President will conduct the meeting. Following the regular closing, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. Lunch was served by Angel Thurston.
