Rebels run roughshod on Warriors

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — Eli Thede, Colton Clark and Lane Bach each scored three touchdowns to lead the Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team to its first 8-man win, beating Meskwaki 76-12 on Friday night. The Rebels (1-2, 1-0) rolled to the District 5 victory thanks to a 42-point first quarter in which Thede and Bach both scored twice. Thede had an 18-yard touchdown run and a 50-yard punt return for a score, while Bach rumbled in from 56 yards and recovered a fumble for another TD. Bach finished with a team-leading 81 rushing yards on five carries, adding a 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter as Gladbrook-Reinbeck built a 76-0 lead. Clark ran for 78 yards with touchdown dashes of 42 and 19 yards, while Thede tacked on a 7-yard TD scamper in the second half. G-R quarterback Jackson Kiburis opened the game’s scoring with a 5-yard TD run and finished 3-for-4 passing for 74 yards. The Rebels outgained the Warriors (0-3, 0-1) 436-178, with Meskwaki getting on the scoreboard for the first time this season with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. Dayvin Guevara caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Stanford Kapayou, and Kapayou cashed in an 11-yard TD run to finish the scoring. Kapayou led the Warriors with 42 yards rushing but was 8-for-22 passing for 132 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Evan Nelson caught four passes for 88 yards to lead Meskwaki’s receivers, but the Warriors couldn’t overcome six turnovers in all. Meskwaki goes on the road next Friday to face Twin Cedars, while Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts Melcher-Dallas in district play.
