The 2018-19 Auxiliary year for Gladbrook Unit #127 started with their annual Membership Brunch on Monday, August 13 as Becky Fish and June Klinefelter furnished goodies for us to enjoy. But the purpose is to welcome everyone join in our Auxiliary Pride of what we do, why we do it and to show off what is being done in our Auxiliary and to pay our dues for another year of work. Due to a national raise, our Senior dues this year are $25 and Juniors pay $5. The member ship cards are out and renewal notices to members will arrive from National sometime in September. We reached our membership goal of 252 plus 3 in 2017-18, and thus our goal was raised to 260 members this year. We remain one of the four largest Units in the state with one of the largest and most active Junior groups that keep us on our toes. We thank you all for your continued membership and were able to welcome another new member to our group, Paulette Boerm, daughter of Vera Arp, eligible through her husband, Roger a member of the Traer Post. Our 2018-19 Department president, Mary Sebban of Waukee has chosen “Honoring our Veteran’s Legacy” as her theme as we recognize the 100th anniversary of The American Legion. Her symbol is the American Flag, colors red, white and blue. Her projects will be the National Veterans Creative Arts project and the Gold Club of Iowa. We are a member of the white membership dream team. They have chosen ‘Our Veterans are our Heroes as their theme, ‘stars’ as their membership symbol and a song “We’re Bringing in the Membership’ to the tune of ‘When Johnnie Comes Marching Home’. Are we ready? Coming events: Our next Auxiliary meeting will be on Monday, September 10, with an officers leadership class at 5:45. A lunch will be served for all, with the regular meeting to start at 7pm. Chapel will be serving Senior Citizens at 11:30am on Friday, Sept 14 at their church. Call Jeanne for reservations. The Legion/Auxiliary annual fundraising Ham Ball dinner will be held on Sunday, September 16, serving from 11-1. Group # 5 will be helping with Kay Lowry and Betty Dahms, chairs. The Post/Unit will also be hosting the District Fall Conference on Saturday September 22. It will be only a half day meeting so the Legion will meet in the Legion Room and the Auxiliary in the Centennial Rm. A free will offering plate lunch will be offered at noon. The Tama County meeting will be held in Traer on Tuesday evening, September 25, 7pm. If YOU are eligible under a member of the military and are interested in joining the largest patriotic organization in the world….contact any member and we will help you. You may be as active as you feel. Maybe you don’t like meetings or are busy with the children, you can still join (and we love to have little girls for Juniors too) as you can always help with a project of your choice as serving at a dinner, making a salad or sitting at the registration table. Distributing poppies or the IVH Christmas Gift Wrap are favorites along with helping at our own Kids Shopping Day. Patriotism and Americanism, honoring our military and their families are what we do and gives us all this great sense of ALA PRIDE!
