New and improved portable poster sign holder

June 28, 2018

Gladbrook Mayor, Keith Sash, shows off the city’s new and improved portable poster sign holder. The “rolling billboard” holds posters to announce events and fundraisers hosted by organizations within the community. The first portable billboard came to be as the Eagle Scout Project of Andrew Scott back in 2009. Last fall that billboard was retired as it was no longer in usable condition. The sign withstood years of abuse being knocked over by the wind (and possibly motorists) and finally the call had to made to put it away. This spring, Andrew Scott, Mark Knaack, and Zach Knaack tackled the project to bring it back to life. The Machine Tool Technology Class at Marshalltown Community College even gave a hand by cutting the bolt/drainage holes in the bottom steel plate. The box where the poster is placed is totally new and several improvements were made to the original design. The lid is now hinged for easier access, bigger wheels were added to the stand to make it easier to maneuver, and a heavier steel plate was added to the base to keep it upright against the winds. When it is not in the middle of Main Street advertising some event it is located in the lobby of city hall. The project was funded by the Gladbrook Sons of the American Legion.
