The annual Gals & Guys 4-H Club’s 5K and 2 mile walk event was held Saturday, June 28th during the Corn Carnival celebration. This event is growing each year and has a reputation as “the challenging race with the rolling hills”. This race also has great prizes thanks to the race sponsors. Gold level event sponsors this year are Anderson Funeral Homes, Inc., Covenant Clinic – Gladbrook, Grundy County Memorial Hospital and the Tama County Pork Producers. Silver level sponsors are Casey’s General Store, John S. Livingston; Gethmann Construction, Inc., Goos Implement LTD, Heartland Co-op, and Livingston Law Office. Bronze level sponsors are: Bear’s Bulldozing, Excavating & Tiling, Benda’s Bulldozing; Lincoln Savings Bank, and Serendipity by deb. Hometown Foods donated cases of chilled bottled water. Keith and JoAnn Sash supported the race by lending the club a portable microphone for our 4-H announcer Meg Edler. The 4-H members and their families registered race participants, announced the race start and awards, operated the race timing equipment, directed runners at corners throughout the race course, provided refreshments, organized the kid’s fun run, and distributed awards. The 2 mile walk event is an estimation challenge. Participants estimated how long it will take to walk 2 miles. The person with the closest actual time to their estimated time wins. This year our first place walker was David Gilchrist. Second place was Shelton Hatch and third place went to Linda Lowry.
