Jean Bruene, 85, of Gladbrook, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014, at Westbrook Acres, Gladbrook. Sevices and burial at Badger Hill Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, is taking care of Jean and her family. Condolences may be left at www.overtonservice.com. (Minerva) Jean Bruene was born April 1, 1929, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, daughter of Lafayette and Therese (Mauch) Black. She grew up on a farm and attended Excelsior School then Drake College in New Jersey where she learned secretarial skills. On January 5, 1952 Jean married Adolph “Bud” Bruene in New Market, New Jersey. They lived on the family farm near Gladbrook most of their married life. Together the couple had three daughters and, in addition to parenting, Jean worked as a secretary. Jean was a lifetime member of United Methodist Church of Gladbrook where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, but most of all she and Bud loved their family. After retirement they spent a lot of time following their daughter’s and grandchildren’s activities. They enjoyed traveling together whether it was to Pennsylvania to visit her family or as far away as Switzerland. Jean passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Bud, and daughter Kay Cramer. She is survived by her daughters: Gayle Bruene of Cedar Falls and Teri Osborn (Todd Draper) of Gladbrook; and three grandchildren: Emily Boeckelmann, Dan (Sarah) Osborn of Reinbeck and Ryan (Stephanie) Osborn of West Des Moines. Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered at a Memorial Service to occur at a later date.
