Monday morning, July 28, 2014, the Tama County Board of Supervisors, Kendall Jordan, Larry Vest and Dan Anderson, approved a Zoning Map prepared by the Tama County Assessor Jerry Witte. Witte has redone a map and will be putting this on line in the very near future. The map shows Agricultural, Commercial, Heavy Industrial, High Density single family residential district, Light Industrial district, Multi-family residential district, and Single family residential district. The County Recorder’s quarterly report shows 247 deeds recorded, 183 real estate mortgages, 27 affidavits, 206 releases and assignments, 353 miscellaneous, RVVRS, Hunting and Fishing licenses, Auditor’s transfer fees, Real Estate Transfer stamps, records Management fees, Vital Statistic Certificates, for a total of $28,567.03, remitted to the Tama County Treasurer. Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, reported the road department is continuing to work to repair damage from storms. Most of this work involves hauling rock and blading isolated areas where water ran over the road. Brehm said last week he had identified a significant problem on Highway T47 south of Montour. Brehm said there is a pair of 24 inch culverts carrying water from east to west a little north of 350th Street. Water has run over the road at this location several times in the past and he has identified a void under the shoulder. Brehm believes the void exists only under the shoulder, but can’t say with certainty that it doesn’t continue under the road. Brehm stated that eventually a void under the road will collapse, creating a hole in the surface that is an obvious hazard to vehicles. He intends to replace both culverts with an adequately sized concrete structure, but this type of structure is not immediately available. In order to allow safe usage of the road until a concrete structure can be obtained this fall, he will remove the pavement over the culvert this week and knock down any type of void that may exist under the pavement. They will then backfill the area with rock. There will likely be settlement of the dirt over the winter so it will not be repaved prior to winter. The Tama County Bridge Crew is working on the bridge on J Avenue north of IA Highway 96. This is the truss bridge that was closed due to a vehicular collision. Five of the beams came in last week, the other four will come in this week. At this point they are driving piles to strengthen the abutments. The North abutment is completed. Brehm told supervisors the contracts have been returned for the bridge replacement projects in Grant Township section 14 and Clark township, section 26. Brehm says they will have a preconstruction meeting for the Grant 14 project on Wednesday and would expect the contractor to begin work soon. Brehm also told supervisors the spray crew will start using brush cutting equipment next week. In other business a permit was approved for Poweshiek Water for work to be done at 1464 R Avenue in Traer. Claims approved for payment for the past week came to $52,865.62.
