John Frederick Thomsen, 75

John Frederick Thomsen, 75, of Kingsport, passed away on December 25, 2013 in Louisville, KY. Born in Gladbrook, Iowa, “Fred” graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in chemistry and then earned his law degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. His legal career, which brought him to Kingsport, TN in 1967, began and ended with Eastman Chemical Company where he worked as a patent attorney. After retiring in 1997, he enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with family. Fred was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and will be remembered most for his sharp mind, inspiring humility and ever-present sense of humor which he shared with all who knew him He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Marie Thomsen, Houston, TX, daughter Martha Thomsen-Wesley and her husband Todd, Louisville, KY, daughter Holly Lynn Thomsen, Louisville, KY; three grandchildren, Evan Harris Wesley, Samuel Frederick Wesley and Emma Caroline Wesley; brother Ralph Thomsen and his wife Ardell and brother Dick and his wife Gloria and seven nieces and nephews. The Gethmann Cemetery will be the final resting place for John Frederick Thomsen and graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 10:30am. Following the commitment services, a reception will be held for friends and family at the United Methodist Church of Gladbrook at 11:30am.
