The Gladbrook community came together to support the fundraiser for Savanna Mehaffy, daughter of Shaun and Alicia Mehaffy of Gladbrook, held on Saturday, July 12, 2014. The event sponsored by Tiger Taekwondo of Marshalltown and Gladbrook, Gladbrook Lions Club, and Peace Church was held at Hometown Foods in Gladbrook.
The event raised close to $800 in proceeds to help with travel. lodging, meals away from home and other expenses that insurance does not cover.
Savanna has a venous malformation of her lower lip. Venous malformations are comprised of slow-flowing, abnormal and dilated veins. They are present at birth, but they are not always evident at birth. The appear as either a faint blue patch or soft blue vascular mass. Most often the lesions are located on the face, arms, legs, or trunk. Venous malformations are the most common of the vascular malformations. Venous malformations grow in proportion with the child, expand slowly, and often enlarge when the child experiences a growth spurt. Treatment plans can be determined accurately based on physical findings and MRI results.
