Jeanne welcomed members of the Garwin Unit, who annually visit Gladbrook for the installation of new officers on this cool July 14 evening. Each Unit began the evening with their business meeting. Jeanne gave a report on the Corn Carnival food stand which in spite of rain showers did well as the weather cleared on Friday for a very pleasant evening, a successful parade and a large crowd. We again welcomed the Department Commander Jim, Department President Ann and ALA’s Executive Secretary, Marlene Valentine to ride in the parade, eat at the stand and visit MatchStix Museum. The Legion/Auxiliary float received first place in its category. Thanks were extended to all who built floats, the food stand, baked pies, worked a shift, put on oilcloth or ate, also those in the color guard, hosted folks and chaired a day. The secretary’s report was read with corrections made. The Treasurer’s report was given by Jeanne, March 1-July 14. The treasurer’s books will be audited before the August meeting by Beth Miller. There will be no Senior Citizens dinner in August and the September event will be on Friday, the 12th at the Memorial Building. Make your reservations to Jeanne. Donations were volunteered for the IVH Tama County picnic with Marilyn Carstensen helping with the meatballs, 30 pcs of chicken by Jeanne, 3 doz deviled eggs (72) by June Johannsen and Louise Ulch, 2 pies by Karen Pieper, corn by Jolene. The County furnishes the 20# meatballs and baked beans. The Gladbrook Membership Brunch will be Monday August 11 from 9-11am at the Memorial Bldg hosted by Joan King and Leah Eilers. Dues are still $30 for Seniors and $3 for Junior members. You may pay anytime to Jeanne at PUCC or Jolene and we thank you if you do. First Day of school flag raising will be on Wednesday, August 20 with plans being made. Sewing Days are being planned for October. The Maintenance Ham Ball Dinner date has been changed until Sunday, Sept 14th, serving from 11-1. Mark your calendars! Correspondence was read with thank you’s from Martha Gamble, and Suzanne Engel Young. Memorial donations were received from the Rev Jim Engel family to the Gladbrook Legion. His father, Lee Engel, was the first commander of the Gladbrook Legion. Jeanne then opened the meeting in form with a prayer and Pledge to our Flag. We convened into joint session for the purpose of installing officers, Jolene presided with Marilyn Carstensen and Louise Ulch acting as Sgt at Arms.
