Message From Our Mayor

June 13, 2014
Northern-Sun Print
With the temperature warming up all the flowers are out and the grass is really growing. It is that time of year our local farmers are watching their crops growing and looking great. A personal favorite is the baby calves on the pastures with their mothers. This time of the year also bring graduations both High School and Colleges. Congratulations to all of you students who have achieved your goals and are taking the next step in your life. You have made your parents, family and friends very proud. Good luck in your futures. We have just had another Memorial Day celebration and as always our local Legion and Auxiliary put on a great performance in honoring those who have served our country. The highlight for me was the GR Band. These young people performed great in playing patriotic songs with an outstanding job at the end. Shelby Yates and the young man who joined her did one of the best jobs playing Taps that I have every heard. Thanks to all of you. Did you know that we have over 636 deceased veterans from all the wars buried in Tama County? I have no idea how many veterans are still living. I do know that we owe all of them a lot and we can’t thank them enough. All veterans have our total respect and a very large thank you for serving our country. I hope you all saw in last weeks paper where the Gladbrook-Lincoln Ambulance gave a very large donation to the Fire and Ambulance building fund. These fine volunteers who give so much of their time in serving us also stepped forward with a $100,000 donation. With this donation, we have raised $950,000 in a short year. We still need more to complete everything we would like to do. If you have been watching across from Casey’s, you know we have started the new building. Dirt work is done and foundation is poured. Utilities are next to go in. Keep watching and see Gladbrook in action and growing. We are only two weeks away from Corn Carnival. If you don’t have June 26,27, 28 & 29 on your calendar do it now. As always it will be a great time for both friends and family. The Corn Carnival committee plans on keeping you busy all four days. Invite everyone you see – the more the merrier. Let everyone go the extra mile and help clean up your property and help show off what we are all so proud of – making Gladbrook a place for everyone to enjoy. See you at Corn Carnival.
