Lion’s Club milestone for Aldrich and Thoms By: Margaret Thomsen

The Garwin Lions Club met with Iowa Lions Club First Vice District Governor Bill Pollard as their guest. Lion Pollard told about Lion activities across the state. He also handed out tenure awards to Lion Allen Aldrich for 40 years of service to the Garwin Lions Club. Leroy Thoms was recognized for his fifteen years of dedicated Lion membership. Other guests at the meeting were Garwin Boy Scout Leader Bill McClain, Scout Christian Deam and his father, Matt Deam. During the business meeting the Lions focused on purchasing an additional topper “Welcome to Garwin”sign for the electronic sign. They reviewed the annual BBQ Supper held in April and the meeting schedule and dues for next year. Donating funds to the Lion’s International Foundation was also discussed. It was announced that the Garwin Lion’s Club Vocational Scholarship of $250 was awarded to GMG grad, Luke Wrage. The group also covered assisting the Garwin Ambulance Service with purchasing bike helmets for GMG third graders. The Garwin Christian Church Ladies served a lovely meal. The next meeting will be at the Garwin Methodist Church.
