Garwin Memorial Day Services By: Margaret Thomsen

American Legion William Saunders Post 71 conducted the traditional Memorial Day Services at the Garwin Cemetery. Commander Tom Podhajsky welcomed those gathered and introduced members of the GMG Band. They played “The Star Spangled Banner’ and were directed by Mr. Dan Lastovka. Chaplain Jerry Abbe offered a prayer and read the roster of deceased veterans from all wars. Members of the GMG Speech Team presented patriotic readings. Dillon Slingluff read “The Ragged Old Flag”. Chandler Kendall and Korey Sederburg read Red Skelton’s explanation of “The Pledge of Allegiance”. Members of the Auxiliary were present for the “Laying of the Wreath”. The GMG Band played “America” and “Amazing Grace”. The Memorial Day tribute in recognition of those who have served our country closed with the 21 gun salute and playing of “Taps”. Mr. Dan Lastovka was the instrumentalist.
