Rachel Koester, 93, of Gladbrook, Iowa entered into eternal life Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24, at Gladbrook United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, at Anderson Funeral Home-Gladbrook Chapel, 410 Johnston Street, Gladbrook, IA. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. Rachel was born March 4, 1921 to Harry and Christene (Robertson) Rose in Crystal Township of Tama County. She attended Gladbrook High School and graduated with the class of 1938. Rachel was united in marriage to Arthur Koester on May 12, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas. Rachel was a dedicated farm wife and mother, a fantastic cook with dinner ready at noon sharp, lunches at nine and four and supper at six. She enjoyed collecting owls, seeing live ones on road trips and spotting their nests. Rachel had a strong faith and was very active in the church her entire life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gladbrook, serving as president of the Gladbrook United Methodist Women for many years, and also teaching Sunday school. Rachel was also a former member of the Tama County Cowbelles. Rachel will be missed by her four sons: Phil (Deb) Koester of Gladbrook, Paul (Avriel) Koester of Gladbrook, Dave (Lisa) Koester of Marshalltown, and Steve (Marcia) Koester of Gladbrook; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Martha Koester of Gering, NE; two nieces, two nephews and her beloved cat, Sierra. In eternal life, Rachel has been reunited with her husband; son, Jim and infant son Jerry; one brother, John, daughter-in-law, Janet and two infant grandchildren.
