The Gladbrook Women’s Club held their May luncheon at the Bindford House in Marshalltown. We were graciously served a chicken breast lunch complete with a delicious salad and dessert. This lovely home was a perfect place for us to hold our membership and officer installation meeting. Vivian and Karen thanked our hostesses. Following the luncheon President Pat Clausen called the meeting to order and recognized outgoing officers, Shirley Miell, Treasurer and Barbara Luethje, Recording Secretary. New officers installed for 2 years terms were Marcy Knaack Recording Secretary, June Klinefelter Treasurer, Rhonda Hein Correspondence Secretary. Karen Pieper Historian, was installed for a one year term. Pat presented all with a flower and a fun gift. Barb Luethje read secretary’s report of the April 11th meeting and it was approved as read. Shirley Miell gave an itemized treasurer’s report and it will be filed with the minutes. The spring tea was successful but not all the bills have been presented at this time. June Klinefelter presented an additional bill for the carafes she was authorized to purchase for the Independent Living. Shirley Young reported on the Education Project and a check will be presented to the Gladbrook elementary and middle school. Principal Brian Williams will dispense the monetary gift to all the grades for purchase of additional books. Correspondence: A thank you from Quakerdale for the donation to Wolfe Ranch was read by Shirley Y. Old Business: Motion was made by Shirley Miell to combine the salad luncheon and the senior citizens dinner again next year. Karen Lage seconded the motion. After discussion the motion carried. A discussion was held on having a booth at the collectors fair and Pat asked for a show of hands of those interested in this project. Motion was made by Sandy Raum to have an entry at the Collectors Fair at Corn Carnival. Patsy Rinz seconded the motion. Pat asked for discussion and the formation of a committee to work this project. Avriel, Karen H. and Vivian volunteered to serve. Members voted aye and motion carried. Holiday Happenings, monthly meetings, spring fling and blood drive sign-up sheets were circulated. New Business: Moved by Shirley Y. to alter our Christmas project to coordinate the judging of the festival of trees instead of the outdoor lighting. After discussion this motion was voted on and passed. Shirley Y. reported on the Spring Fling which will be a trip to Iowa Falls on June 12th. A stop at the art gallery and museum, lunch, and boat ride along with time for shopping will fill the day. We will meet at the Methodist Church parking lot at 9:15. Shirley M. said the Hospice House had cookie dough donated by Martin Brothers, therefore, will not need our cookies this month. Joan reported on the Spring Tea and thanked the committee. Compliments on the Tea were plentiful and although a lot of work, it proved to be a good fund raiser. A special thank you to all those who modeled and made it possible to carry out our theme of “Brides through the Years”. Twenty-three members answered roll call and Suzanne Boldt was a guest. Birthdays and Anniversaries for the months of May, June, July and August were read. Our next meeting will be Sept. 11th and will be held at Quakerdale.
