Gladbrook Women’s Club

The Gladbrook Women’s Club met on April 11, 2014 at the Memorial Building. Prior to the meeting our Club served the Senior Citizens Dinner. There were 29 seniors attending plus Women Club members. The GMG speech students performed selections from the Large Group and Individual contest season. Everyone enjoyed listening to these very talented students. President Pat Clausen called the meeting to order at 1:45 with 23 members answering roll call with their thoughts of looking back 36 years. Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer’s report read and approved and will be filed with the minutes. Old Business: Hospice volunteer dinners will be on April 21 in Waterloo and April 24th in Grundy Center for those wishing to attend. June reported on cost of purchasing coffee carafes for the Independent Living. Moved by Sandy Raum to purchase 2 at Sam’s Club at about $7.25 each. Juanita Fulter seconded and with no discussion the motion passed. New Business: Joan reported on the Spring Tea to be held on May 4th at 2:00 in the Memorial Building. “ Brides through the Years” is the theme. Plezant Company, a women’s quartet from the Cedar Falls area will entertain. Tickets are available by calling Shirley Miell at 641-473-2528. Seating is limited and reservations are needed in advance. This event raises money to support local programs including $500 each year given toward an educational project. Shirley Young reported on the educational project with a reminder of how the money was spent in the past and ideas for the future. More will be discussed on this at the next meeting. Moved by Karen Pieper to pay the bills for the spring tea as presented. June Klinefelter seconded the motion and as there was no discussion the motion passed. Signup sheets for Hospice dinners, Holiday Happenings, Spring Fling, Meeting programs, May Luncheon were passed around. Also, a sheet for e-mail address updates was circulated. Discussion on using e-mail to notify members of meetings and upcoming events will be further discussed at the board meeting. June 12th will be the Spring Fling in Iowa Falls consisting of a riverboat ride, antique shops, boutiques, shopping, etc. May 8th will be the membership luncheon at the Binford House in Marshalltown. Easter egg coloring at Westbrook Nursing Home will be April 14. Extra help is needed for this project. There is no need for Hospice Cookies this month. Vivian LeVier placed in nomination to fulfill offices for the next 2 year terms: Marcy Knaack Recording Secretary, Rhonda Hein Correspondence Secretary, June Klinefelter Treasurer. Karen Pieper, Historian, to fulfil the last year of Marcy Knaack’s term. There were no additional nominees from the floor. Having none, nominations were closed. Vivian moved to have a unanimous ballot to accept these nominations. Avriel Koester seconded. No future discussion and motion passed. Birthdays and Anniversaries for the month of April were read. Meeting was adjourned.
