The Gladbrook Women’s Club met on March 14, 2014, at Independent Living. President Pat Clausen called the meeting to order. She asked for roll call with 19 members answering with one of their most memorable Gladbrook Women’s Club experiences. Most were happy memories, however, a few recalled experiences that gave us a good laugh. President Pat asked for a recess from the meeting as she introduced our guest speaker, Jennifer Daniels, of the Wolfe Ranch Life Enrichment Center located in Marshalltown. About seven years ago the boys from this facility were moved to another facility and this Center now operates with almost no state funding and primarily exists on donations and volunteer help is welcomed. This Quakerdale Wolfe Ranch is one of Iowa’s premiere facilities that offers therapeutic riding programs, equine assisted psychotherapy and equine assisted learning. These well trained horses are able to help build confidence, increase trust, decrease anxiety, and assist in problem solving and beneficial for those with disabilities. The Ranch is also the perfect place for weekend retreats, family celebrations, group meetings/conference with overnight accommodations. The club thanked her for her informative presentation. President Pat resumed the meeting asking for the secretary to read the February meeting minutes. They were approved as read. In the absence of our treasurer, Pat, gave the treasurer’s report and as there were no additions or corrections it will be filed with the secretary’s minutes. Barb read the birthdays and anniversaries for March. Correspondence Secretary, Rhonda Hein, read a thank you from the family of Marjorie Frey. A request from the G-R After Prom committee was read. This monetary donation is already in the approved budget and the donation will be sent. President pat shared invitations to appreciation dinners from the Cedar Valley Hospice. One in Waterloo on April 21st and one in Grundy Center on April 24th. Our club will be recognized for its cookie donation volunteer work. Final plans will be made at the April meeting. Also mentioned, is the need for additional cookies during the November and December months. The Women’s Club Spring Tea will be held on May 4th and committee meetings are planned. May membership meeting will be held at the Binford House on May 8 at 12:00 p.m. Checks for membership and the luncheon should be made out to GWC. Sign-up sheet for those attending and for those wishing to drive will be passed out. We will leave the Methodist Church parking lot at 11:15 a.m. President Pat, asked the club to consider having a booth at the Corn Carnival Collector’s Fair this year. Next month, the nomination committee will present a slate of members wanting to fulfill the officer vacancies for the next club year. Our club will be serving the April 11 Senior Citizen Dinner. A reminder was given to the Easter egg coloring committee for the upcoming nursing home project. The April 10th meeting will be a 11:30 a.m. luncheon at Independent Living with all the residents invited to attend. Board members will bring hot dishes and other members will bring salads. Drink and dessert will be provided by the committee. GMG Speech students will present the program. Pauline introduced a program for purchasing cases of food at a reduced price to be given to Camp Courageous. Moved by Jean to fund the project. Seconded by Jolene. Pat asked for discussion and concern expressed to whom the monetary donation should be sent. Pat will research and get the check to the intended. President Pat called for a vote. All voted aye and motion carried. Sherry said the Independent Living could use a couple of carafes. Avriel moved to purchase and Karen L. seconded. After discussion all voted aye and motion carried.
