Northern-Sun Print
Alpha Study Club met Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Peace United Church of Christ Dining Rooms, with Shirley Young hostess. President Deb Wentzien opened with Jenny Diamond’s “Skipping Through The Year: Monthly Enjoyments And Personalities”. Each of the sixteen members present responded to roll call by stating their favorite month. The secretary’s minutes from January 28, 2014, were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given. A thank you note from Martha Gamble was shared and Deb thanked the group for input during January weather, an ongoing challenge this year. Marcia Plett of the program committee introduced JoAnne Sash who reviewed “The Longest Road”, published by Phillip Caputo in 2013. In 2011, the author, his wife and two English Setters made their way in a truck and Airstream trailer from Key West, Florida, to Deadhorse, Alaska, covering sixteen thousand miles. Caputo spoke to everyone from a West Virginia couple saving souls to a Native American Shaman and taco entrepreneur. Deb ended with “Wishing for Tomorrow “ and reminded members that our next meeting will be at Serendipity, on February 25, with reviewer Marcia and hostess Pat Clausen. Shirley served the group delightful cupcakes, candies and hot drinks. Pat Clausen, Secretary Pro-tem
