GMG Girls vs North Tama by Tabytha Teube On Friday, Feb. 7, from 5pm-630pm GMG vs North Tama at home. Olivia Barritt a JR at GMG had the leading score with a total of 9 pts. Following close behind were SRs Mikaella, Koster and Caitlin Appelgate with 7 pts each. Blaire, Sonderleiter a FR scored 5 pts, Josie, Claassen a FR scored 2 pts, and Codi Groth a SR scored 1 pt. It was a tough night for the GMG girls against North Tama with the end score at 31/49. It was a tough night for the Wolverines, but they were there fighting the entire game!

GMG Boys Face Colo-Nesco in a Nail Biter by Nina Soto On Saturday February 8th, the GMG boys basketball team faced Colo-Nesco at home in Garwin. It was a very excited game, unfortunately, GMG lost 65-68. Senior Chad Plaehn and Junior Bridger Claassen from GMG were the leading scores with 18 points apiece. Senior Brock Fisher contributed 12 points, and Senior Luke Petty places 10 points on the scoreboard. It was an exciting game to watch, our boys did a great job!

GMG vs Waterloo Christian By : Luke Petty The GMG women faced Waterloo Christian in the district first round game. The game was held at GMG, February 13th. GMG played a hard fought game to the very end, but Waterloo Christian prevailed 35-28. Olivia Barritt led the team with 10 points. Caitlin Appelgate led the team with 11 rebounds. Preschool Registration Mike Dirks Registration forms for 2014-2015 GMG preschool are available. To be eligible for preschool, children must be four by September 15. Forms are available at the elementary and high school offices, as well as online. If you know of a family with a child that is eligible, please have them contact the office at 641-474-2551.

End of 3rd Quarter The 3rd quarter at GMG has been moved to Friday, March 21. The quarter was originally to end on that Monday. The move was to make up all the snow days that we’ve had. GMG is trying to even out the quarters due to all the snow days that we’ve had. Mark your calendar! The fourth quarter of this school year is just around the corner!

Conference Speech Contest Laura Landt The Iowa Star Conference Speech Festival is being held at Waterloo Christian Academy at 1:00 P.M. on February 26th, 2014. This is a day for those in Iowa Star Conference to practice before the Iowa district contest. This year we have approximately 25 students out for individual speech. This festival should be a great practice session for our speech contestants!

Individual Speech Contest by: Tyson Strayer GMG’s speech team, containing roughly twenty five students, and Coach Margret Thompson will be traveling to Meskwaki for the District Individual Speech Competition on Saturday, Mach 1st. The competition is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m and last until roughly 4 p.m. We are hoping our contestants score well and advance to state competition.

New Jr. High Track Coach By: Tabytha Teube Exciting news at GMG! Our new Jr. hight track coach this year is Mr. Mark Rodgers. He has previously coached GMG football, GMG baseball, GMG softball, and he is taking on a new endeavor to coach junior high track. He has been excellent help with coaching in the past, and we know he will bring lots of skill to our junior high program. Welcome back to the coaching field, Mr. Mark Rodgers!

Monday Pops Concert Lexie Curry On Monday night, February 24, the GMG Pops Concert was a great success. The band’s preformed lovely. Mr. Dan Lastovka directed the sensational concert and jazz bands, and Mr. Alan and Mrs. Sheryl Mullikin directed our outstanding chorus and vocalists. The vocal soloists were Taylor Jackson and Isaiah Zielstorf singing “Chocolat”, Chandler Kendall and Emily McDowell singing and preforming “Say Something”, and Caitlin Applegate, Jennifer Borota, Mackenzie Burt, and Summer Langenbau singing “Keep Holding On”. Each group sounded amazing. In Jazz 2 the soloists were Chandler Kendall, Jennifer Borota, Chelsea Hurd, and Conner Stonewall. In Jazz 1 the soloists were Caitlin Applegate, Kenna Krier, Mackenzie Burt, Tyler Krull, Jennifer Borota, and Dillion Slingluff. These soloists, as well as the bands, were awesome. Thank you to all of you who came to the performance, it was an amazing turn out.

GMG Blood Drive by Nathan Swaim The GMG blood drive is approaching quicker than you think. It is going to be happening on the 14th of March. If you haven’t gotten a slot hurry up and get one! The blood drive will be held in the new gym at the GMG High School. It is going to be going on from 12:30-6:30. Walk-ins are welcome! Come and support the program and save some lives!

GMG Track Begins Tyler Thurston The GMG tracks teams are starting practice the week of February 24. Coach Mr. Michael Pierson is excited for the boy’s track team, and they are all hoping for a 3peat victory in their conference meet. Coach Reed is also excited for the girl’s track team this year. He also says that anyone who wants to go out this year, it’s not too late. GMG students get out there and run with heart!

Golf By: Michele Teube All of you golfers at GMG better get ready. Go get you golf clubs out and ready, because golf starts on March 17. Coach Mike Spurlin is excited to see who shows up. It is sure to be an excited and fun year. Get your game on, and go play some golf for the GMG Golf team.
