8th Grade BCLUW Jacy Johnson On February 3, 2014 the 8th grade basketball boys of GMG played a hard game against BCLUW. The game took place at the GMG High School. Evan Especnschied (No. 13) made 4 two point goals in the first half and 2 two point goals in the second half. Aaron Fleming (No. 35) made 2 two point goals. In the end the boys ended up winning the game with a magnificent score of 33 to 27. Good job boys!

7th Grade BCLUW Jacy Johnson On February 3, 2014 the 7th grade basketball boys of GMG got their head in the game for some serious gaming. The basketball game took place on the home court of GMG. They played against the big bad BCLUW. Kolton Gill made 5 two pointers in the first half! The ending was result a loss of 19 to 44. Good game boys!

State Speech Results Chris Loethe On Saturday, Feb. 8, the State Speech Team coached by Mrs. Margaret Thompson traveled to Marion, Iowa for State Competition. The State Large Group Speech results are in. The finals were 5 out of 7 groups received a 2 rating and 2 groups received a 1 rating. The two groups with 1 ratings were Radio Broadcasting with Payton Mannan, Olivia Welton, Allison Stegmann, Codi Groth, Summer Langenbau, Josh Gruen, Anna Schiedel, and Cole Langenbau, and Radio News with Chelsea Hurd, Dillon Slingluff, Logan Burt, Olivia Barritt, Ryan Spurlin, and Tyson Strayer. The groups with a rating of 2 were ensemble acting with Caitlin Applegate, Abigail Duden, Jennifer Borota, and Mackenzie Burt. The ensemble acting consisted of Blaire Sonderleiter and Josie Claassen. Another ensemble acting group was with Kenna Krier and Noah Thurston. Group improv consisted of Kenna Kreir and Jeff Hughes, and another group improv. with Mackenzie Burt, Jennifer Borota, Abigail Duden, and Caitlin Applegate. Way to go Speech Team!

Blood Drive Coming Your Way by Caitlin Appelgate The GMG Anatomy II class is holding the 16th Annual GMG Blood Drive on Friday, March 14, 2014, which is about a month away! It will begin at 12:30 in the afternoon and end around 6:30 that evening in the new gymnasium. If you are interested in giving blood, you may set up an appointment by contacting Mark Samek through the school at 641-499-2005. Spots are filling up quickly, so reserve your spot soon! If you would rather not set up an appointment, walk-ins are also welcome.

COMMUNITY SERVICE for GMG Seniors by Zach Halverson Attention GMG Seniors, you need to get your 20 hours of community service completed. To receive your diploma, your community service hours must be completed before graduation day. So, please get your hours in before May, and get excited about graduating! Congratulations to the class of 2014!

Seniors Pictures by Tabytha Teube GMG Senior pictures need to be brought in immediately for the class composite, GMG Year Book, Northern Sun, and Times Republican. One picture may be used for all. Make sure the pictures are vertical and wallet size. Congratulations, to the senior class as graduation is rapidly approaching!

Spanish T-Shirts By Riley Santry Spanish T-shirts at GMG are for sale. There are a variety of sizes. Youth T-shirts are sold for 10 dollars each. Regular T-shirts are being sold for 12 dollars each. Plus sizes are being sold for 13 dollars each. The shirt will be royal blue. The design of the shirt will say “Hola” with black ink. In white ink it will also say. “ GMG High School Spanish.” For an order form, see Riley Santry, Anna Scheidel, Shawna Hughes or Ms. Leslie Preston, the Spanish instructor.

Commencement Exercises By: Michele Teube All GMG seniors and family members mark you calendar because graduation is just right around the corner. Graduation for GMG will be on May 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the old gym. So, seniors and parents get ready for this exciting and changing day in yours or your child’s life.

Art Club Bracelets by Laura Boone The GMG Art Club is currently selling bracelets. The bracelets are black and blue with GMG Wolverines on them. They only cost $2.00 per bracelet. If you live in the GMG community or are a student of GMG you may purchase one now. To get a bracelet you may get a hold of one of the Art Club members, or Mrs. Farren Johnson, you may even call the school, and they can get ahold of a bracelet for you.

GMG After Prom At Taco John’s by Nina Soto GMG Night at Taco John’s is coming up. Come support this fund raiser for our after prom! This event will be on Wednesday, March 5th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Eat at Taco John’s in Marshalltown and support our students and their fun times after prom!

Student Council Valentines Lane Williams The GMG Student Council sold red carnations and little bags of candy for $1.50. Many kids were happy on Friday, February 14th to receive a gift from a secret admirer, a loved one, or even just a friend. It was a very fun Valentine’s Day for all!

Preschool Registration Lexie Curry It’s time for preschool registration already! The registration forms for 2014-2015 are now available. For the children to be eligible they must be age 4 by September 15th. You can pick up a form at the GMG Elementary or High School offices. If you know of a family with an eligible child, please notify them and have them contact the office at 641-474-2251.
