On December 18, 2013 the Gladbrook United Methodist UMW met for the annual Christmas Luncheon. The hostess for the event were JoAnne Sash, Carolyn Anker, Patsy Rinz, Maxine Schoel and Barb Strohbehn. Twenty-one ladies enjoyed a delicious Christmas ham dinner. June gave the table grace. Marcy Knaack read a couple poems about angels for devotions. Martha Gamble presented the lesson “Angels We Have Heard”. Martha read the “Littlest Angel” and each guest shared the story of their angel. Martha gave an angel ornament to Lucy DeWitt with the youngest great grandchild. The UMW presented a blanket at the baptism of Charlie, Lucy’s great grandchild. The Koester twins, Clay and Tate, will be baptized on December 22nd and will each receive a blanket. Barb sent 29+ Christmas Cards to church members. Lucy thanked the group for all their prayers, cards, and phone calls for her and her family this past year. Patsy delivered 5 boxes of items to the Hillcrest in Dubuque. While there she toured the new chapel, gym and classrooms and heard about the activities of the home. The director will be a guest at an upcoming church service. Rosemary announced the upcoming soup benefit for the Dan DeWitt family will be January 11th. June presented Rev. Carol with an ornament of the church sanctuary decorated for Christmas. The door prize was presented to Lucy with the most grandchildren (14). The meeting closed with the reading of the UMW Purpose. The group prepared cookie plates to be delivered to the members of the church.
