The GMG Dance Team performed in the State Dance Team contest at Hy Vee Hall in Des Moines on December 4. The team earned a I rating and a second place trophy! This is the largest state competition in the United States. The Iowa State Dance Team Association flies in judges from all over the United States. It is two days of very tough competition. The GMG Team danced in the Hip Hop Class 2 and danced against eleven other schools. Only two schools received a I rating. Coach Angie Claassen said, “We are very proud of our team with the second place trophy. Our goal was a I rating, as last year we missed a I rating by .25 of a point. This year we went down with the attitude we were going to get a I and a trophy and we did that. We put many hours into this routine. They worked hard and reached their goal.” The GMG Dance Team will be dancing a Christmas number during half-time at the basketball game on Friday, December 20. This reporter got a glimpse of the routine and it is a “must see” - it is awesome.
