Kevin Lehs, Manager of the RPM Access Project, was guest speaker for the Garwin Lions November program. Lehs told about the wind farm installation project located near Wellsburg. He showed the Lions pictures and explained the entire process of establishing a wind farm. It all begins with meetings with farmers, ground surveying, area preparation, installation to the daily maintenance of the wind farm. Lehs also explained the tax benefits of wind farms to local communities over a 30 year period. Lion Ron Smith said, “I had no idea all that goes on in the planning and installation of a wind farm”. Lion Leland Frahm added, “Kevin answered all our questions. It was a great presentation.” President Mark Polich conducted the business meeting. The Lions voted to pay the 2013 charter fee for Garwin Boy Scout Troop #394. The Lions also voted to give monetary support to the GMG High School Annual and the Tama County Food Pantry in Gladbrook. The Garwin United Methodist Church Women’s Group served the Lions a delicious meal of lasagna. The December 12 Lions meeting will be held at the Christian Church in Garwin. Lehs is pictured as he spoke to the Garwin Lions Club.
