GMG Dance Team Goes to State By: Summer Langenbau On December 5, 2013 GMG’S dance team performed at the largest state competition in the United States. This annual event was held at HyVee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa. ISDTA files in judges from all over the United States making this a very tough competition. GMG had ten dancers perform to a hip hop routine this year. The dancers were as follows: Peyton Mannan, Codi Groth, Mikaella Koster, Jennifer Borota, Dusty Savatdy, Mattie Vaske, Blaire Sonderleiter, Josie Claassen, Sydney Soerm, and Kaitlyn Gill. Their alternative dancers were Emily McDowell and Riley Santry. The group danced in the Hip Hop Class against eleven different schools. Only two schools received a 1 rating. GMG received a 1 rating and a second place trophy. Angie Claassen, coach, and Traci Fraser, assistant coach, are very proud of their ten ladies that received a second place trophy. Their goal was a 1 rating. Angie states, “Last year, we missed the rating by .25 of a point. This year we went down with the attitude we are going to get a 1 and a trophy, and we did just that! We put many hours into this routine. They worked hard and reached their goal.” We are so proud of the GMG dancers and their coaches. What an awesome accomplishment. Bringing home the trophy is an amazing feat!
