Gladbrook United Methodist Women

On November 20, 2013 the Gladbrook UMW met with Carol Mead and Diane Mussig as hostess. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship, delicious food and the beautiful fall decorations. Delores Matney gave the devotions with the thoughts of Love and a story about butterfly love. Ollie Pleggenkuhle from Fayette gave the lesson on Joy and Happiness. The Soup Supper has been canceled. There will be a soup fund raiser for Samantha and Dan DeWitt in January. Any donations made for the Soup Supper will be given to the DeWitt family fund raiser. Joyce Bruene made a motion to give a donation to the Philippine disaster relief through UMCOR. The motion was seconded by Kay Lowry. Marcy Knaack made the motion to give a donation to the local food pantry and seconded by Carolyn Anker. The UMW will be giving a donation to mission in memory of Virginia Lau, Les Kneeland, Mary Appelgate, Evelyn Bern, George Chizek, Kevin Chizek, Nancy Carlson, Ruth Parsons and Gerald Raum. The motion was made by Pauline Flamme and seconded by Carolyn Anker. There was discussion on the cost of the Christmas Luncheon, with a motion made by Joyce Bruene and seconded by Carol Mead to raise the price. The group was asked to remember Robert Crandall in our prayers. Robert is the director of Bidwell. Carol Mead and Kay Lowry will be making Christmas sacks for the youth of the church. The motion was made by Kay and seconded by Joyce. Barb Strohbehn will be sending Christmas Cards to members of our church. Each person is asked to bring 1 dozen cookies to the Christmas Luncheon to make cookie plates for the shut-in folks of our church. There will be a Thanksgiving Potluck after church on November 24, Rev. Carol will provide turkey and Bud Locke will provide ham. Each person is asked to bring side dishes for the potluck. The Christmas Luncheon will be December 18th at noon. Martha will present the program and each person is asked to bring an angel to share with the group. Barb Strohbehn received the door prize. The meeting closed with the reading of the UMW Purpose.
