The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted a Veterans Day Program at Westbrook Acres on Mon., Nov. 11th. Unit President Jeanne Paustian and Education Chr. Sue Koster were in-charge of the program. Pianist Sue Koster got everyone into the spirit by playing a medley of patriotic music.
Jeanne welcomed a large crowd of veterans, spouses, widows and others to our program. Unit Chaplain Joyce Swangel presented the American Flag and all sung the "National Anthem".
Jeanne read the names of all veterans present and told their branch of service. Poppy Chairman Jodi Betts pinned a poppy boutonniere on each veteran. The five military songs, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard, were song led by Auxiliary member Rev. Barb Muhs. The veterans proudly stood when their song was played.

Jeanne gave a brief history about the first Armistice Day and when it was changed to Veterans Day. Rev. Barb Muhs told the history or a story about several patriotic songs including "American the Beautiful", "Onward Christian Soldiers, and Let There Be Peace on Earth before they were sung by all.
Sue Koster led the group in trivia questions about Armistice Day and Westbrook resident Bob Lemke knew most of them.
Jeanne read a poem entitled "Veterans Day".
The program ended by all joining hands and singing "God Bless America".
Refreshments of patriotic cupcakes were served by Joyce, Sue, Barb, Jeanne, and Jodi.
