G-R Goes Barefoot By: Hanna Christopher
October 18, 2013
Could you go barefoot for an entire day? Last week the Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School helped raise awareness for a charity called Soles4Souls. The Renovation Club encouraged students and teachers to bring in pairs of reusable shoes which will be donated to people in need around the world. On Thursday, Octoer 10, the Soles4Souls organization sponsored a movement known as Barefoot4Them. GRHS went barefoot to represent the less fortunate people in our society who don’t have shoes. This helped students appreciate what they have and realize that not everyone is as lucky as them. Each day of the week, Renovation shared a fact about shoe waste and how they can be reused. Some of the facts included: “300 million pairs of reusable shoes are tossed into landfills each year” and “The average American throws away about 70 lbs. of clothing, shoes, and other household textiles each year.” The next time you have unwanted shoes or clothing, please consider donating to a special cause.
