FFA News By Maddison Wild

This fall things seem to be picking up with GladbrookReinbeck FFA. On October 22nd, several FFA members will be going to the local coops, including Heartland Locations Reinbeck and Lincoln, Voorhies Grain, MidIowa in Gladbrook and Midway, to hold their annual Bushels of Success Kickoff luncheon. Bushels of Success is an important fundraiser for the organization where in return for sack lunches, farmers are encouraged to give bushels of grain or to make a cash donation to the GRFFA. The fundraiser is essential to the FFA and they want to give back to the farmer who feed us all. Money/Grain collected will go to help offset the costs of leadership camps and conventions, scholarships for members, livestock feed for livestock projects for members, and many other opportunities. The Greenhouse is getting a facelift and the FFA can thank Mr. Mayes’ ag carpentry class and a donation by the GR School Board to help fund the project. Hopefully upon completion, the addition will look like an old time general store, even with a porch! Fruit sales are to begin on October 21st. If interested in purchasing fruits, meats, or cheeses, a local FFA member can supply you. The fruit is essential to help new members earn their jackets and support the chapter, in our largest fundraiser of the year. The fruit sales will close up right after Thanksgiving, making the arrival before Christmas and a perfect gift. National Convention is in Louisville, Kentucky, this year from October 30th to November 1st. You can watch all the action from your computer screen via National FFA website. Keep a close eye on the FFA, as we believe we have some more interesting news coming in the next couple of weeks!
