GMG vs Belle Plaine by Eric Lada Last Friday night , on September 27, the GMG football team was on the road to play Belle Plaine. The final score was 22-14. Alec Bovenmyer and Tyler Krull were tied with the most total tackles at 11. Luke Petty had 2 fumble recoveries and Matt Smith had 1. Austin Vaughn scored a total of 8 points and Luke Petty scored a total of 6 points. This week GMG has a bi-week, but next week they are home against Iowa Valley. We hope to see you there and give our GMG football team some support! Go Wolverines!
GMG vs. AGWSR by Eric Lada The JV football game against AGWSR on Monday, October 7,was canceled. The reason behind it was because AGWSR varsity team got rained out last Friday, so they rescheduled it for today. Next week, the JV football team will be on the road again to Montezuma. GMG JH Tournaments by Anna Scheidel On October 5, the JH GMG volleyball team had tournaments at Gladbrook starting at 9am. The schools that participated were South Harden, Dike NH, AGWSR, GR, and GMG. All games went to 18. Our first match was against AGWSR. We lost 15-18, 16-18. Our second match was against Dike NH. GMG lost 7-18, and 11-18. Our 3rd match was against South Harden. GMG won both with 18-16, and 18-8. Finally, our girls went against GR and won both games with 18-13, and 18-9. The girls had some good volleys, great servings, and a strong finish for the day.
2012 Nevada Cub CC invitationals By Trey Moore GMG Cross Country was invited to the 2013 Nevada Cub CC Invitational on 9/24/2012 in Nevada, IA. The GMG middle school only had 3 girls ran. They were Kyla Wilkening who landed a 37th with a time of 15:47.7, Zoe Duncan who placed 63rd with a time of 17:03.5, and Haley Stall who ran a time of 19:18.5. In the Varsity girls 4k run, we had one runner, Natalie Smith, a freshmen, who placed 42nd with a time of 19:59.0. In the boys 5k run, we had Junior Jeff Hughes who landed 36th with a time of 20:34.8, Senior Logan Burt who got 57th with a time of 22:23.5, and Sophomore Josh Gruen who got 61st with a time of 22:33.2. The team is continuously working to the best of their ability to take time off of their run! Good job, GMG!
GMG Volleyball By Hunter Smith GMG went against North Tama, on October 2nd. The game was 0-3 with North Tama being the victors. The first round was16-25, second round 15-25, and third round was 11-25. The girls are continuously improving though! Abigail Duden contributed 1 ace, 1 assist, and 3 digs. Mikaella Koster added 2 aces, 3 kills, 5 assist, and 5 digs. Caitlin Applegate grabbed 3 kills, 1 solo block, and 1 assisted block. Peyton Mannan attributed 1 assist, and 4 digs. Mackenzie Burt had 1 ace, 1 kill, 1 assisted block, 2 assist, and 6 digs. Olivia Barritt spiked 5 kills, and 3 solo blocks. Finally, Jennifer Borota slapped down 10 kills.
Parent’s Night At GMG By Scott Rockne The GMG High School will be having a parent’s night. It will be on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. It is for the senior parents, and their senior student. It will be for football, cross country runners, and the cheerleaders. So, if you want to come and see the seniors and their parents, come to GMG and show your support. It is going to be a fun time! You don’t want to miss it! End Of 1st Quarter for GMG students By: Aspen Brown The end of the first quarter for GMG High School is October 22nd. Seniors need to be packing their classes in to make sure they have enough credits. Underclassmen be setting your classes up also. The end of the school year is approaching fast!
No School October 14! by Shannon Brown GMG has no school on October 14. The 14th is an in-service all day. The teachers will be going to different schools to see how others teach. For example, If you’re a language teacher you might go to language classes at another school and see how the teachers from the other schools teach their language class. The teachers from GMG will be all around the state acquiring information to educate our GMG students.
Ms. Matney to JH in 2 weeks By Chad Plaehn Ms. Alison Matney has been teaching at the GMG High School with Mrs. Julie Upah and Mrs. Andrea Samek for the last 8 weeks. She will be leaving us this Friday, October 11, but she will only be leaving the high school. Then she will have a week to finish some of her college projects. After that week, Ms. Matney will return and start back her working with the junior high students. She will begin working with the junior high on the 21st of October. She will be student teaching with Mrs. Susan Strohbehn, Mrs. Cindy Cutler, and Mrs. Anne Barloon. After having Ms. Matney for the last 8 weeks, we know the junior high will enjoy her in their classed too!
