The fall musical at the high school is in full swing! This year, GR drama will be putting on the Tony Award winning musical, Bye Bye Birdie. The musical follows Elvisesque Conrad Birdie as he is about to be drafted into the Army. Conrad’s manager, Albert Peterson, and his faithful girlfriend, Rosie, concoct one last publicity stunt before Conrad leaves. They take the rock and roll star to small town Sweet Apple, Ohio, to kiss a teenage fan goodbye on the Ed Sullivan Show. This show is full of hilarious moments, catchy songs, and all of the talent Gladbrook-Reinbeck has to offer. Bye Bye Birdie won’t open at GR until November, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. You can find dedicated actors and actresses in the auditorium, bright and early, every morning. With director Ellen Johannes at the helm, accompanied by the talented fingers of Amanda Bridges, the musical has the makings to be one of the best. Be sure to mark your calendars for November 7th and 8th at 7:00, and 10th at 2:00, and be sure to keep checking the papers for more updates on the progress of the show.
