Gladbrook Jr. Auxiliary Family Potluck

The Gladbrook Juniors met on Sun., Sept. 22nd, for their annual family kick-off potluck, with 16 adults and 19 Juniors present. After the table grace by 3rd District Jr. Chaplain Kayla Vavroch, the group enjoyed a delicious supper. The Juniors with the help of the their mothers made Halloween pumpkin bags filled with candy corn, and very cute pumpkin faces made out of beads for the Iowa City Ronald McDonald House. The Juniors signed a birthday card for Mattox Krull to go along with his gift. Jr. Leader Jeanne Paustian announced the awards the Juniors had won the past year including, first place honors with their participation in Americanism and Music, scrapbook, and handiwork. The Gladbrook Juniors are one of the top Jr. Units in the state. Jeanne presented a certificate and prize to Adelyn Sienknecht, whose poppy corsage won the state award. Jeanne also announced that the Gladbrook Junior Auxiliary was named the number one Unit in the Nation at the National Legion & Auxiliary Convention in Houston, Texas. Kathy Vavroch showed a video on “Operation Christmas Child”. A project that the Auxiliary and Juniors took part in last year. The Juniors will be bringing items for girls or boys that will fit in a shoe box for ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 to the October meeting. Jeanne will bring the shoe boxes. The Juniors will also be bringing Christmas gifts for the son of our military family that was adopted by our Unit last year to the December meeting. The Krull family from Garwin is our adopted family. The Jrs. then renewed their vows in the Jr. Auxiliary with a candlelight initiation service conducted by Unit President & Leader Jeanne Paustian, Jackie Sherman, Kathy Vavroch, Cynthia Eggers, Melissa Sienknecht, and Chaplain Jodi Betts. Each girl receives a “JR” membership pin donated by Nicole Clapp when they join. Leader Jeanne presented pins to new members Carlee Smith, Tatum Ridout, and Kennedy Davis. All the Juniors were excited for the yearly drawing of prizes. Each Junior got to pick out a prize. Kendra Vavroch received the jar of snack mix by guessing the closes number of pieces in the bag. Winners of the eagles that were given for our state awards were Kendra Vavroch, Kyla Moore, and Jordan Sherman. The Juniors next meeting is Sat., Oct. 12th, 9:30, at Westbrook Acres with Jodi Betts and Shanna Goos in charge. They will be making fall favors for Westbrook Acres. Hostesses for the potluck were Kathy Vavroch, Betty and Abby Dahms, and Kim Thompson.
