Gerald “Jerry” Plaehn, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation was from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Gerald was laid to rest in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Gladbrook, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Gerald Herbert Plaehn was born on April 27, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the son of Earl and Helen (Puls) Plaehn. Jerry attended School in the Gladbrook School District graduating with the class of 1966. He was united in marriage to Carol Knise and they later divorced. On June 15, 1984, he was united in marriage to Beth Finch at the LeGrand Friends Church in LeGrand, Iowa. He and Beth lived in rural Marshalltown. Jerry worked for Fisher Controls as a machinist for 30 plus years and also loved to farm, helping his best friend, Dorman Brush, on the farm. He was a member of the local UAW #893, and Farm Bureau. He loved to go to farm auctions, farm tractors and always enjoyed a good movie, but the most special time was time he could spend with his family, wife, children and grandchildren. Jerry was also very proud he had been a16 year blood donor. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 29 years, Beth, children: Dennis (Danielle) Plaehn of Marshalltown, Iowa; Tiffiany Plaehn of Chandler, Arizona; Brian Luse of Iowa City, Iowa; Mindy (Shane) Brown of Anamosa, Iowa; and Angela (Frank ) Penaloza of Scottsdale, Arizona; his sister, Diane Olson; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren;, nieces, nephew, and cousins. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Helen.
