Mark Rodgers was honored at a retirement open house on May 26. The event was hosted by GMG staff members. Mark concluded his 31 year teaching career at the close of the school year. He has taught the past 29 years at GMG. Countless students well remember Mr. Rodgers as their keyboarding, business communications and special education instructor. Coaching also took up a good bit of his time, as he coached softball, football and baseball during his tenure at GMG. The weather was “challenging” that day with the flood waters covering many roads - including the main highways coming into Garwin from the south and west. But a number of his former students, athletes and their parents came to say “thank you and good luck in retirement”. Mr. Rodgers wife, Phyllis, and three children - James, Patricia and Pamela - were in attendance. He says his future plans include subbing. But what he will really love is following a passion - baseball. He will be attending some professional baseball teams in spring practice and actual play.
