Gladbrook United Methodist Women

June 1, 2013
Northern-Sun Print
On May 15th, a beautiful May Day, 23 ladies gathered for the Gladbrook UMW May Breakfast. Kathy Herink, Marilyn Brekke, Avriel Koester and Corrine Jansen served a delicious breakfast casserole. The tables were decorated with baskets keeping with the May Basket theme. Barb Strohbehn gave the devotions and Quentin Mussig, Diane’s son, gave the lesson. Recently Quentin had been on a mission trip to Mozambique with his church, the Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls. The trip was a part of the Food for the Hungry mission group. Quentin had the great privilege to meet the young girl that he and his family sponsor. Quentin shared many interesting facts about his trip. Mary Appelgate reported on the Journey Bound concert held at the church and June reported on the graduation reception the UMW hosted on May 12th. We were asked to remember Ken Strohbehn, Marlys Garber and Scott Wiese with prayers. There was further discussion about the round tables. There were several prices for a 71 inch table with a minimum order of 2 tables. It was decided that we need more details and possibly seeing the tables. There was discussion about sponsoring a child through the Food for the Hungry and the Orchard Hill Church. We will get more information from Quentin for this project. Because the UMW uses a considerable amount of electricity for events at the church it was decided that we give the church some money toward the electric bill. This was a motion by Joyce Bruene and seconded by Martha Gamble. Pasty Rinz received the door prize with the best May Basket story. The next meeting will be July 17th with a Mid-Summer Extravaganza. Pasty asked for donations of sleepers for the Nigerian Layettes. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
