Wednesday evening the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board met in special session and acted on several hiring’s and resignations. Sarah Johnson was hired as the 7th-8th Language Arts Instructor. She is originally from Osage but completed her first few years of teaching in Texas. Cami Parker was hired as the Gladbrook Campus Secretary at the rate of $10.25/hour. She comes from Pocahontas where she has experience working as a technology integrationist. Jackie Garin was hired as the Family Consumer Science/Psychology instructor. She is currently teaching at Lansing. Jessica Weber was hired as middle school student council advisor. This is a newly paid position. The resignation from Kyle Formanek as middle school wrestling coach was accepted and Formanek was hired as the high school wrestling coach. Andy McQuillan’s resignation as high school girls track coach was accepted, effective for 2013-14. The board waived the second reading of board policy 604.6 ‘Instruction at a Post-Secondary Institution. Ninth and tenth grade talented and gifted students and all students in grades eleven and twelve will be reimbursed for tuition and other costs directly related to the course up to $250. Students may request in writing for the district to pay PSEO costs for a summer course that advances their program of study. The high school handbook will now reflect this policy as well. All students are required to earn 58 credits of high school work in order to graduate, effective with the graduating class of 2016. The class of 2014 will need 55 credits and the class of 2015 will need 56.5. A 1/2 credit per trimester will now be given for participation in physical education. Previously students received 1/4 credit per trimester for participation in P.E. The board approved High School Principal Matt Leeman’s request that tutoring be available for a student with medical issues. Compensation will be at the rate of $25/hour for the teachers involved.
