Gladbrook Auxiliary Mother’s Tea

The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted their annual Mothers Tea on Mon., May 13th. Their special guests were Dept. President Mary Littrel, North Liberty, 3rd District President Kelly Elliott of Shellsburg, and Tama County President Jolene Denbow, Gladbrook. They all brought greetings and received a wooden flag picture. President Jeanne Paustian opened the program welcoming everyone to the tea on a gorgeous spring day. The G-R Middle School Chorus under the direction of Amanda Bridges, sang six numbers for the entertainment. They did a wonderful job as they continue to get ready for their spring concert. They received bit size scotcheroos in music bags for their treat. The Memorial Service was conducted by Chaplain Joyce Swangel with the help of Jeanne and Jolene. During the service, hymns were sung led by pianist Rev. Barb Muhs ; prayers lifted up, and a poem on Faith read. The Unit lost six members since the last service. They were Phyllis Willer, Past Unit President, Ruth Parsons, 19 yr. member, Eva Bell, 23 yr. member, Neva Petersen, 24 yr. member, and Tanya Richards a 33 yr. member. A candle was lighted for the deceased and their family members were given a white carnation. Rev. Muhs played TAPS. Jeanne announced that we have one Jr. member graduating from high school, Alexander Gamble, a granddaughter of Doc & Martha Gamble. President Elliott and 3rd District Women of the Year chairman Donna Sutton presented Martha Gamble with the title of the 2013 3rd District Women of the Year. Martha was very deserving for all the bags she has made for the many projects of numerous organizations. Jolene and Jeanne passed out continuous years of membership awards to the following: 25 year pins: Many Gehring, Janelle Gienger, Robin Moore, Geraldine Kroeger, Diedra Mohr, Karen Pieper, Katie Wedmore, and Debra Fischels; 40- year certificates to Andrea Warren; 50 year certificate and pin to Judy Peterson; and 60 plus year awards to, Emma Moeller, 62, Jean Marquart, 64, Ferne Schoel, 65, Mavis Nelson, 66, Phyllis Chizek, 68, Dorothy Landt, 70, Maxine Schoel,71, and 78 year life member Doris Beck. Everyone present received a white carnation. Kay Lowry was the lucky winner of the geranium basket. The program ended with all singing “God Bless America”. The tables were decorated with placemats welcoming everyone to the Mothers Tea. Everyone received a patriotic bucket filled with flag mints. Beautiful poppy arrangements adorned the tables made by Jodi Betts. The salad lunch was served by Linda Randolph, Joyce Swangel and Jeanne Paustian.
