4th Annual Mini Relay For Life

May 17, 2013
Northern-Sun Print
Many people know about the Mini Relay For Life. This event is taking place on May 17th at the Gladbrook Track. Jane Stirler has planned it for as long as it has been around, but this year she passed it on to the 8th graders of Gladbrook Reinbeck Middle School. Us as 8th graders will be responsible for the events that take place at the Mini Relay For Life. Of course we are doing this in remembrance of Denean Bauer. She was a wonderful teacher who passed away from cancer in 2009. Every year when this event happens will be in remembrance of her. This event is to honor her and her wonderful life. Most of the students who knew her would say she was one of the best teachers to have. 8th graders will be teaching subject like sun safety, which will teach students about how to use sunscreen properly, and how to take care of yourself in the sun. They will also learn about Tobacco and Alcohol and this will teach students to stay away from dugs and alcohol. Physical activity is another topic being taught. This will teach students how to stay active and healthy. The last topic that will be taught will be Nutrition. This will teach students the importance of eating healthy. We are also taking names for people who have fought cancer and won. Plus, we are taking names for people who have fought and unfortunately lost. We will be putting all the names on big wooden ribbons. If you have any names that you would like to ask please e-mail Jane Stirler at As 8th graders at GRMS we are responsible for the Mini Relay For Life. If there are any problems it will be us to blame thought we hope that won’t happen. As the Mini Relay For Life goes on please remember those who have fought cancer.
