On April 30th, 2013, Gladbrook-Reinbeck Middle School participated in a walk to cure diabetes. The students raised over $700 through donations from family and the community for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF). On April 9, 2013, Toni Mortensen from JDRF did a presentation on Type 1 Diabetes and explained how we could help to find a cure for this. We combined our JDRF walk with a “Go the Distance” day walk and invited the elementary students to participate. “Go the Distance” (promoted by Live Healthy Iowa Kids) and JDRF recognize the importance of daily physical activity.
