May 10, 2013
The Gladbrook UMW met on a cold, wet day April 17, 2103. Pauline Flamme and Joyce Bruene hosted the meeting with the spring theme. Diane Mussig gave devotions reminding us it is “Spring”. June Klinefelter gave the program on a recent visit to the Sager-Brown UMCOR Depot in Louisiana. She shared the history and the mission of the depot. This is where the health and school kits are sent for distribution. June showed slides of the facilities. The UMW served the Senior Citizen Dinner in March, visited Westbrook Acres in January, February, March and April, and entertained at Pheasant Ridge in March. The Bingo prize box for Pheasant Ridge needs to replenished, items that work well are word search books, caps, bath and body products, snack foods and playing cards. We will be needing a Historian to replace Karen Pieper. It was discussed if we should continue with the Solar Oven project, no decision. It was suggested the malaria nets for a project, this also was tabled. It was suggested the UMW purchase some round tables for the fellowship hall, this was tabled until we can get a price. The question was brought up where they would be stored? Saturday, April 23 is Day Apart in Waterloo. The group was reminded to sign up for the May Breakfast on May 15th. Everyone is asked to bring a May Basket from the past or a memory of a May Basket. A dozen sandwiches are needed for the Journey Bound Concert being held at the church. Martha gave a report on the Kid’s Club this past year and shared an activity they completed, each child decorated a pillow case with of theme of “Fruits of the Spirits”. This year the UMW project will be completing Birthing Kits, everyone is asked to bring receiving blankets for this project. Diane Mussig received the door prize for the birthday closed to Easter. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
