Jr. Auxiliary 3rd District Conference

The 2013 3rd District Jr. Auxiliary Conference was held on April 28, 2013 at the Gladbrook Memorial Building.

Kendra Vavroch, Gladbrook, was the President with the following officers:

V-P, Hailey Clemons, Conrad; Secretary, Abby Smith, Gladbrook; Chaplain, Hayley Feldhouse, Conrad; Historian, Gracie Nagle, Gladbrook; Sgt-At-Arms, Maya Goos, Gladbrook & Skylar Feldhouse, Conrad. Her personnel page was her sister, Sydney.

Gladbrook Juniors attending the conference were: Tylin & Jasmin Tervin, Rylinn & Kasia Dale, Kyla, Ashlyn, and Lyndee Moore, Adelyn Sienknecht, Greenlee Smock, Rachel Scarf, Justina Eggers, Abby Smith, Madisyn Eggers, Gracie Nagle, Kendra, Kayla, and Sydney Vavroch, Maya Goos, Justine Reese, and Mystery Carmer.

Following a dinner served by the Gladbrook Auxiliary, the meeting was called to order by Parliamentarian Jolene Denbow. Carrying the Unit & District Flags in the processional were Justina Eggers, Kyla Moore, Rachel Scarf and Justine Reese. The POW Flag was placed by Kayla Vavroch, and the "Vacant Chair" was read by Hailey Clemons.

Gladbrook Legionnaire & Past Dept. Commander Richard Denbow and Unit President Jeanne Paustian brought greetings. 3rd District Chairman of Juniors Lois Slaba gave the response.

Junior Units answering roll call was Conrad and Gladbrook. Total registration was 26 Juniors, 23 Seniors, 5 Legionnaires, and 6 guests for a total of 60. Gladbrook had 18 Juniors present, 9 Seniors, and 3 guests. Each Unit gave a copy of their yearly activities to Historian Gracie. She showed the history book her sister, Sasha had made for Kendra. Chaplain Haley thanked everyone who sent prayers for Kendra's "Books of Prayers & inspirations".

The Juniors were honored to have as their guest Department Commander Lyle Schaffer, Galva, and Dept. President Mary Littrell, Iowa City. They both addressed the Juniors.

Other dignitaries present who brought greetings were 3rd District President Kelly Elliot, Shellsburg, Dept. Jr. Chr. Doris Jackson, Lorimor, 6th District Legion Chaplain Ralph Young and 6th District Jr. President Brandi Young, Urbandale, 3rd District Vice-Commander Jim Zacharius, and Dept. Sgt-at-Arms Monte Rallsbock.

President Kendra's special guest was Department Jr. President Mikayla Houseman, Lorimor. Gladbrook Juniors gave a monetary donation for her project.

A Pennies March was held with the proceeds going to President Kendra's project, coloring books and colors for military kids. Tylin and Jasmin Terven carried the buckets with $61.36 being collected from the Pennies March. Lots of colors and books were placed in a patriotic swimming pool for Kendra's project. Gladbrook Unit gave a monetary donation for postage. Pop-tabs were collected for the Ronald McDonald House totaling 86 lbs. 6 oz. Gladbrook Juniors brought pop tabs weighing 27 lbs. 10 oz.

The following officers were elected for the 2013-2014 year: President, Hayley Feldhouse, Conrad; V-P, Deidra Green, Conrad; Secretary, Abby Smith, Gladbrook; Chaplain, Kayla Vavroch, Gladbrook; Historian, Justina Eggers, Gladbrook; Sgt-at Arms Hailey Clemons & Skylar Feldhouse, Conrad. They were installed by 3rd District President Kelly Elliot.

President Kendra's mother, Kathy, pinned on her past president's pin.

Waverly will host the 2014 Conference.

Contest results were announced by Lois Slaba. Gladbrook earned first place finishes in three categories of Handiwork Contest, Best Scrapbook, Adelyn Sienknecht won first place with her poppy corsage, and Katy Thompson won first place with her poppy poster.

Rylinn and Kasia Dale drew the door prize winners. Gladbrook winners were June Bessman, Kayla & Sydney Vavroch, Maya Goos, Rachel Scarf, Jasmin & Tylin Terven, Abby Smith, Ashlyn, Kyla, and Lyndee Moore, Adelyn Sienknecht, Madisyn Eggers, and Kasia Dale all receiving hand gel.

For entertainment the Juniors thoroughly enjoyed dancing to several songs including the "Chicken Dance".

The Gladbrook Jrs. presented Kendra with a gift from her officers. The Unit gave Kendra a bouquet of flowers placed in front of her podium and her corsage was given by her Jr. Leader Jeanne.

The conference ended with singing "God Bless America" and the retirement of colors.
