GMG Spring Carnival by Scott Rockne The GMG Spring Carnival is coming to Garwin, on Friday, May 10, 2013. It will run from 5:00pm to 8:30pm. It is located in Garwin, IA at the GMG Secondary School. There will be lots of fun games and a dunk tank. The sophomore class will be serving a meal. So come join us; a good time will be had by all!

GMG Golf at Grundy by Nathan Swaim GMG attended a golf meet on 4/20/13. There were eight teams total at this meet. GMG did very well at this meet. We placed fourth out of the eight teams. Everybody shot pretty equally. Well, Chad Plaehn is always the outliar with a score of 45, with this score he ranked eighth in the whole meet as an individual. Chad also played on the all tournament team during this round of play. Bridger Claassen ended the night with 51 for a score. Ryan Spurlin captured a score of 52. Luke Petty did a good job with 56 as a score. Kenan Hall shot a 57. Austin Vaughn scored a 59 overall. Our boys team certainly can play a nice round of golf!

Mathern Benefit on April 28! by Tristan Zoffka On Sunday, April 28, 2013 there will be a Garwin Benefit Breakfast for the Eli and Ashley Mathern family for medical expenses due to Ashley undergoing radiation after the removal of a brain tumor. They will be serving breakfast from 8-11 A.M. at the Garwin City Park Shelter House. The Garwin Revitalization Committee will be serving Belgian waffles, pancakes, toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy sausage, and coffee and juice. There will be a free will offering! If you cannot make this event, donations may be given to the revitalization committee by addressing it to the Mathern Family. Send your donation to the Merle and Carol Parks residence, at 204 Park St. Garwin, Iowa. They, in turn, will give the donations to Eli and Ashley Mathern. Thank to all that help in this worthy event!

Girls GMG Relays By : Luke Petty The GMG Girl’s track team hosted the GMG Relays. In the Shot Put, Sara Hinson received first place with a throw of 30’. Autumn Rosacker earned 4th place in discus. Caitlin Appelgate earned first place in high jump, with a jump of 5’1”. They did a great job in the field events. The running events were good also. Sara Hinson placed seconds place in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 17.63 seconds. Sara also had a time of 29.36 in the 200M dash earning 4th place. In the 400M Hurdles GMG had 2 medalists, Mikaella Koster earned 3rd place, and Codi Groth earned 6th place. Caitlin Appelgate earned a 4th place finish in the 400M Dash, Ella Gruen got 5th place right behind Caitlin Appelgate. The sprint medley team received a 4th place finish, Jennifer Borota, Mackenzie Burt, Abbie Duden, and Ella Gruen participated in the sprint medley. The 4x400 team earned a 3rd place finish, Jennifer Borota, Caitlin Appelgate, Mikaella Koster, and Ella Gruen participated in the 4x400. In the 4x200 Jennifer Borota, Mattie Vaske, Codi Groth, and Mackenzie Burt earned 4th place. In the shuttle Hurdles, Mikaella Koster, Caitlin Appelgate, Anna Scheidel, and Sara Hinson earned a first place finish. The 4x800 Relay finish in 4th, Morgan Gauthier, Mackenzie Burt, Mattie Vaske, and Allison participated in this event. The girls had a great track meet. They finished in 4th place overall with a total of 73 points. BGM won the event with 178 points.

Graduation Class Of 2013 By Seth Egleston GMG High School will be holding it’s commencement services. Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 2 pm to 4 pm. It is at GMG in Garwin. This prestigious ceremony will take place in the old gym at the high school. Come and share these special moments with well deserving seniors.

GMG Girls Track Team Compete at Montezuma by: Noah Scheidel On April 16 the GMG Girls Track Team went to Montezuma. Six teams were present in Montezuma, including North Mahaska, Colo-NESCO, Lynnville-Sully, English Valley, and Tri-County. GMG placed 4th of 6, with 61 points. Much of the GMG team placed very well. Caitlin Appelgate placed 1st in the high jump with a jump of 5’ 2.75”. The sprint medley team of Megan Slingluff, Sara Hinson, Caitlin Appelgate, and Ella Gruen also placed 1st with a total time of 2:07. Other notable athletes include the 4X100 team of Megan Slingluff, Caitlin Appelgate, Mikaella Koster, and Sara Hinson who placed 2nd. The 4X200 team of Megan Slingluff, Jennifer Borota, Mackenzie Burt, and Codi Groth placed 3rd. Sara Hinson obtained 3rd place in the 100 meter hurdles. The 4X800 team of Allison Stegmann, Mackenzie Burt, Mattie Vaske, and Morgan Gauthier placed 4th. Ella Gruen placed 4th in the 400 meter dash. The 4X400 team of Jennifer Borota, Caitlin Appelgate, Mackenzie Burt, and Ella Gruen placed 4th. The distance medley team of Jennifer Borota, Codi Groth, Abbie Duden, and Allison Stegmann placed 5th. Mikaella Koster placed 5th in the 400 meter hurdles. Sara Hinson placed 6th in the shot put, and Taylor Jackson placed 6th in the 100 meter dash.
